WINTER PARK HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1964-65
45th Reunion

4044 Tenita Drive
Winter Park, Florida 32792

February 1, 2010

Dear Classmates,

It is hard to believe that 45 years have passed since we graduated from high school. It is hard to believe that our hair is going grayer, the brown spots are getting darker, and the wrinkles keep getting deeper. So—let’s celebrate gray hair, brown spots, wrinkles, retirement and Social Security with a party, party, party!!!

All the plans are now set in stone—unless you hear otherwise. Our reunion weekend is April 16th, 17th, and 18th. We are joining with the Class of 64 to make this weekend a whole lot of fun. In fact, we are joining with several other classes from the 60s to play “Guess Who?” and “What is your Name?” Dress for all our events is casual—no coats and ties!

For those of you that are planning on arriving on Thursday, April 15, an informal get acquainted gathering has been arranged at Dexter’s (at your own expense) in Hannibal Square. On Friday April 16th, you are on your own during the day, but we will gather for a “Get Reacquainted Cocktail Party” at the Mt. Vernon Potomac Room at 6:30 that evening. Appetizers will be served with a cash bar. On Saturday, April 14th, breakfast is on your own.

The Farmer’s Market located at the old train station is a great place to meet for early morning coffee, pastries, crepes, etc. Actually, if you’ve never been there, it is quite “The Place” in Winter Park on a Saturday morning. It is open from 7 until 1 with fresh fruits, plants, gardening crafts, chocolates, fresh baked cookies and bread, leashed dogs, and cats in strollers, etc.

From 10:30 until 1:00 we will gather for “Cats in the Park” (not the annual “Picnic in the Park” which has been scheduled by the “powers that be” for the next weekend). This will be an informal get together of classmates from the Class of '59, '60, '61, '62, '63, '64, '65, and '66. After visiting with old friends from other classes, you can have lunch on your own at the many eateries along Park Ave.

There are many other options for the remainder of Saturday. The Winter Park Boat Tour, located at the east end of Morse Blvd at Lake Osceola next to the Whispering Waters, departs every hour on the hour at $12 a person. Another idea for Sat. is a tour of the Morse Museum on the corner of Park and Canton. You may also enjoy seeing the changes that have occurred on New England Ave. between Park Avenue and Hannibal Square.

If you are interested in golf, contact Rick Baldwin. He will be heading up a handicap golfer’s event for Saturday afternoon. We have provided telephone numbers for the local golf courses for those who are interested in golf on your own.

On Saturday night we will be at the Winter Park Racquet Club on Via Tuscany with cocktails beginning at 6 and dinner at 7. The furniture will be moved for dancing, and a DJ will be playing 60s and 70s music. If you have suggestions for other music, please contact Bob Crowell. The Racquet Club has been renovated in the last couple of years and seating and drinks will also be available around the pool looking out over the lake.

Sunday April 17 will be departure day for most. We hope that groups of classmates will form special farewell breakfasts at separate restaurants around the area.

The total cost for Friday and Saturday nights which includes meals, appetizers, disc jockey, decorations, name tags, mailings (yes, some still have snail mail) is $80 per person. The reservation form needs to be returned to us along with your check made out to WPHS Class of 64/65 by March 15th. In case plans change, refunds will be given until April 1. Reservation forms and checks need to be returned to:

We understand that the economy is not great, and we greatly appreciate the very generous donations that we have received thus far. These donations are extremely helpful in keeping costs to a minimum for everyone. Your donations also keep the website up and running. If you would like to make a donation, please make your check payable to WPHS Class of 64/65, and send it to Bob.

We are attempting to locate everyone and our teachers for this event. Please look through the Missing Classmates List and, if you know how to contact anyone remaining on this list, send us their contact information as soon as possible. It will be a shame to miss anyone.

Send us any old photos that you may have for posting on the website. Our website is up and running. To view this, log on to http://wphs1965.com. Information will be updated regularly. Please send a current photograph and any others you would like to share with us by email to Karen Starr Wilson

If you have any questions or information, please contact Sue Gipson-Price.

We certainly hope that you will plan on attending. It will be great to have everyone together again.

Best regards,

- The Reunion Committee
